Jim Frangione and Tristan Wilson of Great Barrington Public Theater sat down with Saint James Place’s Sally Harris to talk about their summer season. This local production company stages original work, presents new voices, and showcases powerful drama and laugh-out-loud comedy. And their summer season is no exception! Watch the interview!
The theater company creates opportunities for theater artists and supporters in the Berkshires. There’s so much talent within 50 miles of Great Barrington!
How do they choose their original works?
We read a lot of plays and whittle it down to a dozen or so. Then we decide [what plays to produce] based on cast size and the roles we think we can fill…and how is the audience going to react? What do these plays have to say to us today?
Jim Frangione, Artistic Director
Two upcoming plays we think you’ll love: Public Speaking 101, a fun, new comedy by Berkshire playwright Mark St. Germain, runs July 14 – 24; and Things I Know to Be True, a family drama by award-winning playwright Andrew Bovell, runs August 4 – 14. These plays are at the Daniel Arts Center on the campus of Simon’s Rock at Bard College.
GB Public Theater has performaned at Saint James Place in the recent past: a very well-received series of one act plays; and more informal readings. Whether they perform here or at another outstanding Berkshire theater, we celebrate their work.
