Fantastic Baroque! – Famous Opera Choruses and Festive Sacred Works

Join us for Crescendo’s 20th Season Celebration Concert — Fantastic Baroque — on October 28 at 4pm! This festive program features music for chorus, soloists, and orchestra by European and Latin American composers, including J. S. Bach, Vivaldi, Telemann, Purcell, Charpentier, Rameau, Gluck, Zipoli, Zumaya, and Torrejón y Velasco. From an early Baroque double choir “Te Deum” to Gluck’s iconic opera “Orfeo ed Euridice”, this program is intended to touch upon a wide range of emotions and topics. The fast-paced change between works, genres, composers, and styles offers something for everyone to enjoy!

The performers are Crescendo Chorus and Period Instrument Orchestra, sopranos Christina Kay and Alicia DePaolo, countertenor Augustine Mercante, tenor Gregório Taniguchi, and bass-baritone Anicet Castel, directed by Crescendo’s founding artistic director Christine Gevert.

These concerts are underwritten by the Arthur F. & Alice E. Adams Charitable Foundation. Support has also been provided from CT Humanities (CTH), and the Department of Economic and Community Development, Office of Arts (COA) from the Connecticut State Legislature.
