The Art of Fine Art Restoration

Troy Fine Art Services presents The Art of Fine Art Restoration: Causes & Remedies, a compelling evening program featuring Master Conservator Troy J. Amuso on Thursday, October 23 at 7:00pm at Saint James Place. All ticket sales will benefit The People’s Pantry & Saint James Place.

Part of what makes this program so rare is the close-up access it gives audiences to the hidden world behind the canvas. Amuso, a well-known conservator working throughout Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York with nearly five decades of experience, opens that world with striking before-and-after visuals, real case studies from collections across the Northeast, and the kind of expert insight that leaves audiences saying, “I’ll never look at a painting the same way again.”

In this fascinating session, Amuso walks audiences through the hidden environmental and human factors that threaten oil paintings over time — from humidity and light exposure to improper cleaning and neglect. Drawing on dramatic real-world case studies, including the recovery of a still life rescued from a house fire, he demonstrates the careful techniques conservators use to stabilize, clean, and restore works while preserving their historical integrity. Attendees will also have the opportunity to submit a painting for possible live evaluation.
